At a ceremony aboard the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California, on January 16, 2002, Dibby Allan Green, CLAS of Ambrecht & Associates was named the Five Star Paralegal of the Year for 2001, along with co-winner Erin Walsh of Howrey, Simon, Arnold & White in Century City, California.

The Five Star Paralegal of the Year Award seeks to recognize and promote excellence within the paralegal profession based on qualities of handling an extraordinary degree of responsibility, resourcefulness and organization; excellent oral and written communication skills, superior legal research abilities, the promotion of the paralegal profession in the community, and working well under pressure. The award program was created by, and is generously sponsored by, Five Star Legal and Compliance Systems, Inc. Nomination information is sent to over 4,000 paralegal associations and schools, and all paralegals in the U.S. are eligible. This year's nominees came from California, Hawaii, Arizona, Iowa, and Washington D.C. Winners are selected by a panel of nine judges, including working paralegals, representatives of paralegal associations, lawyers, and paralegal educators. The 2001 award was Five Star's ninth annual award, this year shared with two winners.

According to Gregory Arnold of Ambrecht & Associates, "Dibby is a paralegal who functions at the same level as a top-notch attorney." She specializes in estate and trust administration, Caifornia real property taxation, and organization of business entities. She is a published author and co-author of articles in various legal and paralegal publications, a CEB Action Guide, and a chapter on real property taxation in a West' California Transaction Forms: Estate Planning. She has also given presentations, or co-presented, with CEB, UCSB's Legal Assistantship program, CPA groups, and others. (See resume for details.)

Barbara Brooke Medina, CLA, first considered nominating Dibby for the award when she read the nomination requirements and said to herself, "This sounds like Dibby!" John Ambrecht was happy to write the nomination letter, as were several other lawyers, paralegals, and a local judge who sent in supporting letters. Barbara and John (and the whole office) managed to keep the nomination secret from Dibby, and surprised her the day notification came in that she was a finalist. They still had more surprises for Dibby on the night of the 16th - a limousine trip to Long Beach, champagne, roses, balloon.... "A thoroughly wonderful night," says Dibby, "A once in a lifetime experience!"
